Certifiers answer the question, “Does this cable comply with cabling standards? (e.g. TIA-568-B.1 Category 6 or ISO 11801 2nd Edition Class E)”.
These tools are used by commercial datacom installers/contractors and enterprise facility managers, and are required by cabling manufacturers, to ensure new cabling fully meets requirements of cabling standards and the cabling manufacturer’s warranty.
Applications
Fiber optic cables are now an integral element in industrial networks, even for short distances, when it comes to meeting the demands for higher bandwidth. Installation of optical fibers, however, requires clean working conditions, correct procedures and a fair amount of knowledge. Cleanliness, in particular, plays an important role in the optical fibers themselves. According to a study by NTT Advanced Network Technology, dirty fiber end surfaces or connectors are responsible for up to 96 percent of network failures. Therefore, it is a good idea to select an easy-to-operate OTDR that can be connected via interfaces to an optical fiber microscope.
The Cat 6A WireXpert 500 copper cable certifier is fully upgradable to WireXpert 500-PLUS that includes fiber tier 1 certification and is also upgradeable to WireXpert 4500 to include Category 8 certification.
WireXpert 500 is an affordable and upgradable cable tester that can grow with your cable certification needs. Invest today only in options that are really needed and upgrade the device later when necessary. The individual options can be upgraded with a license. For example: If today you install copper up to Cat 6A, and in the future require additional fiber cabling installations, you could then upgrade your WireXpert 500 to a WireXpert 500-PLUS, a copper and fiber certifier. If you need in the future, certification up to Cat 8, all models can be upgraded to that frequency range as well.

The WireXpert with adaptors for optional DCRU measurement
(Fiber Optic, DCRU Test Adaptors optionally available)
The handy, optical time domain reflectometer is available as a combi-device for multimode 850/1300 nm and single mode 1310/1550 nm. For both multimode and single mode fibers, the FiberXpert OTDR 5000 has a very high dynamic range with an event dead zone of < 80 cm, meaning that it is designed for measuring and documenting short fiber links in accordance with standards and for identifying any faults. Further measurement functions, such as attenuation measurement and an optical power level analyzer, allow you to exactly determine the link attenuation and measure the output of active network components. The automatic pass/fail analysis takes place in accordance with the TIA/IEC limits. With this OTDR, standard-compliant tier 2 measurements are as easy as creating professional measurement protocols. Using the new matching optical fiber microscope - which can easily be connected to the OTDR via USB - fiber ends and link end surfaces can be quickly checked and assessed in accordance with IEC 61300-3-35. And all this at just the touch of a button.
The WireXpert 500 measurement solution for Industrial Ethernet cabling is suitable for measurementson LAN cabling with Industrial Ethernet connection technology. The Industrial Kit contains M12 D-coded and M12 X-coded interfaces, as well as RJ45 interfaces, which allow 10 Gigabit-capable Industrial Ethernet cabling to be measured efficiently.
Especially for applications in industrial data cabling, the kit includes, in addition to the WireXpert 500, adaptations for a variety of LAN cabling with Industrial Ethernet connection technology.

A Closer Look at Certification
Certification is the most rigorous of all cable testing. Performed primarily by commercial datacom installers, this is the final step required by connectivity OEMs to grant their warranties for properly installed cabling projects. A certification test tool makes many types of measurements across predefined frequency ranges and compares the detailed results to standards set by the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) {ANSI/TIA/EIA-568-B.1} or International Standards Organization (ISO) (ISO/IEC 11801 Ed.2). The results from these measurements determine if a link is compliant with a category or Class of cable (for example, category 5e, category 6, Class D). Certification tools are the only tools that provide Pass or Fail information on the cabling, in accordance with TIA or ISO standards.
The process of testing a network installation to ensure that it meets specified standards is called certification. This often requires paper documentation as proof of compliance with the standards. The FiberXpert 700 Quad MM/SM Test Kit contains the tools necessary to certify fibre connections to a variety of common cabling standards in singlemode and multimode networks, commonly referred to in the industry as Tier 1 certification.
The calibrated measurement kit can be used to perform standardised link certifications for multimode and singlemode fibre links and print the official test reports directly from the PC software. For the tests, the user has an unlimited number of configurations for different scenarios. Automatic wavelength detection and data storage ensure that testing is completed in the shortest possible time while eliminating the risk of operator error. The results of the measurements can be stored directly in the internal memory, up to 10,000 measurements.
The FiberXpert 700 Quad MM/SM Test Kit is also characterised by simple operation and user-friendly features. This already starts with the set-up process, which is supported by a link wizard with helpful graphics on the screen. For quick differentiation, the result is displayed directly on the colour LCD as PASS / FAIL status based on the colour. The kit also has a rechargeable lithium polymer battery.

Combi solution for the most demanding measurements on copper and fiber optic cables
Smart Link Mapper translates a difficult-to-understand OTDR measurement into a clear, easy-to-read diagram of the measured link. From the diagram, the pass/fail information of each event on the link, such as connectors or splices, can be read directly. The often-difficult interpretation of an OTDR trace thus becomes child's play.
Applications
Certification of fiber optic networks made easy
The most affordable cable tester for copper LAN cable certification
The successfull WireXpert 4500 is now also available in an configuration WireXpert 4500-PRO for users that install cabling for 4 pair PoE (4PPoE) appplications and thus require the optional DCRU measurement.
A cable certifier for all standards
WireXpert also provides certification in accordance with Cat 6/Cat 6A/Class EA and supports advanced certification of fiber optic installations operating at 850/1300nm and 1310/1550nm. In addition, a range of measurement modules are available, e.g. for coax, M12-D-coded and X-coded.
DCRU – DC-Resistance Unbalance ex works
WireXpert 4500-PRO ships with Cat 6A + permanent link and channel adaptors instead of the regular Cat 6A adaptors. Cat 6A+ Adaptors enable the according to ISO/IEC optional DCRU test (DC-Resistance unbalance), which is particular important for cabling that should support 4PPoE ( = 90W remote powering over twisted pair cabling).
